Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand: A Perfect Beach for a Picnic [360-Degree Panorama]

Confession time. This week’s panorama is really for us. We’ve been enduring the tail end of a long winter in Berlin. (Yes, it’s still going!).

Gazing at beach scenes like this one offers a respite, a way to escape to New Zealand for a few moments to forget the lingering snow on the ground outside. We, too, travel vicariously — even back to the places we’ve already visited.

Even if you’re not sitting in cold and snow this week, we hope you’ll still enjoy one of our favorite picnic lunch spots: a white sand beach in the beauty that is New Zealand’s Abel Tasman National Park.

Open up the panorama to full screen and take a virtual stroll around Stillwell Beach.

@Melvin: We also didn’t associate New Zealand with amazing white sand beaches like this, but we kept coming across them again and again. Abel Tasman was amazing. The night before this trek we spent the night on the water and the skies were just exploding with stars – have never seen the Milky Way like that.

@Andi: That’s the nice part – we didn’t have to share it :) So much of the beach and trek we had to ourselves. And this was even in high season.

@Andy: And this was just one of many wide, long beaches at Abel Tasman National Park. It’s more a matter of which one to choose :)

@Agness: Would like to see that park for ourselves one day then!

@Frugal: Thanks for including us in your recent round up! Yes, we do love introducing people to lesser-known destinations or sharing unusual stories from more well known destinations.

That’s a gorgeous panorama video shot. I spent last winter traveling around New Zealand and I remember the Abal Tasman National Park well. Truly gorgeous, I do miss those white sand beaches.

@Allison: Thanks, glad you enjoyed this pano! We’ve been fortunate to see a lot of white sand beaches in our lives, but the ones at Abel Tasman National Park were really special. Especially as we had them almost all to ourselves!

@Simon: Abel Tasman is a really special place! I wish we had more time to spend there – the stars at night were just incredible. Never have I seen the Milky Way like that.

@Ray: And this beach is just one of many that you can stop at while hiking in Abel Tasman National Park. Hope you make it there soon!

WOW – I love the idea of a panoramic view with navigation! It’s a beautiful place, I wish I could have stayed longer when I visited.
