Rapture Meals, One Last Bite (A Slideshow)

All this talk about the rapture and the end of the world has prompted us to consider the following question: If we had only one meal remaining and we could choose absolutely anything to eat for those last few bites, what would it be?

Unfair question, we know. We’ve got a flight to catch, so we’ll leave you to ponder this.

As inspiration to help you decide, we offer a slideshow of 100 of the most beautiful, tasty, memorable and inspiring bites we’ve enjoyed on our travels around the world. And yes, there are others. But we had to be hasty. After all, time is running out!

    Delicious looking pictures.

I think I have to go with this Kobe beef sashimi I friend and I found one night in Osaka. Pretty cliched melt-in-your-mouth type thing, but I dont know that I’ve tasted anything like it since.

I dont think I have time to get back there, though, before the rapture hits?!?!

For my last dinner, I would like to cook food for my whole family which would include: spring rolls with variuos stuffing (shrimp, beef, and vegetarian), spicy soup with shrimp, Beef Tenderloin with Bearnaise sauce, potatoes au gratin and asparagus, and for dessert a chocolate brownie :)
That would be a nice dinner I think :) I miss cooking soooo much! Have a great&tasty flight!

I would probably go with my old favourite, Spaghetti Bolognaise with a nice bottle of red wine. I think the Italians have got it right :)

@Stephen: Ooh, that sounds like an incredible meal. I’ve never had Kobe beef sashimi like you’ve described. Will need to get to Japan before the next prediction for the end of the world. Looks like you’ve got time yourself now to return :)

@Agne: A big dinner with family sounds like a great way to enjoy the last moments together. I like the combination of Asian and European inspired dishes on the menu! I definitely understand how you must miss cooking!

@Dean: Simple and comfort food is always good a choice. And how can you go wrong with a nice bottle of red wine.

If the world were to end after eating all those beautiful meals they might have to widen the pearly gates.

We’ve been keeping a list of the best places we’ve eaten out on our trip around Australia. Two country pubs are actually top of our list.

However, fish ‘n’ chips on a deserted white beach with a bottle of nice wine rank really highly.

@Amy: Doesn’t surprise me about the country pubs making your list – they can sometimes have really fantastic food. But, a simple meal with a bottle of wine in a lovely setting is hard to beat.

Hmm thats a hard one but I would have to say that instead of some place I would ask my grandmother to cook something..anything just to have her food for one last time would be a delight.

@Lola: That’s the way we like to keep it: real and dangerous. (Not real dangerous.)

@Kirk: I love your answer. Very touching, too. And for all the great food I’ve eaten at home and abroad, some of my favorites too are in mom’s domain.

Can I ask which dish it would be?
